Our Story
BAD beginnings
Starting a new project can be daunting. Sourcing the pattern, finding the right yarn, choosing colours that work well together – it can all take a lot of time and thought and there’s plenty of scope for getting it wrong.
Blue Ammonite Designs – just call us BAD! – offers all-inclusive kits that take the angst out of creating beautiful handmade items – whether for yourself, your loved ones or your home. Careful consideration goes into the yarn and colours for every Blue Ammonite kit, with patterns tested and checked by other makers so you can be sure you’ll end up with a project you'll not only finish, but treasure for years to come. With added extras like a printed pattern, crochet hook, stitch markers and yarn needle, you’ll have everything you need to get started the moment your package arrives.
About us
Emma and James are a husband and wife team based in Lyme Regis, on the world-renowned Jurassic coast of Dorset, UK, famous for its fossils and beautiful coastline. A writer by training and a lifelong crafter – she learned to crochet when she was just nine-years-old - Emma works hard to produce patterns that are easy to read and follow, with the emphasis on clear instructions and photo tutorials to guide you through every step. She loves playing with complementary colours to create stunning yet simple designs that are accessible even to beginners.
When she's not crocheting and designing, Emma loves to make handmade stitch markers, and source all the lovely little extras that bring pleasure to your crafting, such as beautiful shawl pins, super-cute badges for your project bag, and useful crochet and knitting accessories like our best-selling Crochet To Go emergency kit. James handles the business side, labouring behind the scenes to source all the materials, as well as ensuring you get your kit as fast as possible, in perfect condition, ready for you to start making something you’ll love.
When they’re not working, Emma and James are usually chasing around after their three crazy terriers, including little Rosie, the Jack Russell/Chihuahua cross whose favourite spot is always on top of a crochet blanket.
